OVB KUP 2010. results

altLast weekend on the courts of
Zagreb’s Jarun, Beach handball tournament OVB Cup was held. The tournament had
exceeded all the expectations and opened Beach handball season on the best way
possible.

In man senior category, teams BHC Detono
Zagreb, Let Cepelin Toma-soft, BHC Sokol and BHC Zapresic have reached
semi-finals. After very interesting games in semis, currently best two teams in
Croatia, champions and vice-champions, Detono Zagreb and Let Cepelin Toma-soft
have granted their place in finals. In an extraordinary final, in which we
could see level of play that we’d expect from Masters final, not friendly OVB
Cup, team Let Cepelin Toma-soft had won first set easily(mostly because of really
good tactics and even better goalkeeper Granić), while the second set went in the
hands of current european champions- Detono Zagreb.alt

In the shoot-out roulette, team
Detono Zagreb had more concentration and won, repaying for last year’s loss against
Cepelin, also in the final of this tournament.

BHC Sokol had won their match
against BHC Zapresic and finished third.

Women teams have played league
sistem, and after a lot of exciting matches, girls from Detono Zagreb have
showed the most and finished first. Second place went to the team Presing and
third to the team Chemo profili Zagreb.

Junior men category was especially
interesting, young beach handballers have showed us all the elements of this
young sport that they have learned. Team Zig-Zag was one level higher than all
the other teams, in the final they have overcame team Detono Zagreb. From the
winnig team we can mention great goalkeeper Mravunac and also great right wing
Tokić. Two players that have showed the most from Detono Zagreb were Lovrić and
Cvitanić.

In the match for the third place
team Veprovi had beaten team BHC Sokol Imago studio.

In junior women category there
were no surprises, favorites from Sveta Nedelja, team Sloga have won the first
place.

‘Starting with the organization,
than level of play showed on this tournament, we have demonstrated that players
in Croatia are one of the best in Beach handball. If we could just focus on the
junior categories, I think we have no reason to be worried for the future and
results of this sport in Croatia. All the teams that have enterd have played
real beach handball filled with a lot of atractive moves and aloso two point
goals, pirouettes and in-flights. So our job as organizators is to ensure
quality competitions which will be a perfect way for them to practice and
learn, so that one day they could compete in senior categories and some of them
maybe even play for national team.’ Said Zvonimir Knežvić, one of the
organizators of OVB Cup 2010.

For the first time the youngest
kids had a chance to try Beach handball. It was really wonderfull to see
10-year olds smiling and trying to score from in-flight or pirouette- so the
real value of this tournament is multiplyed just beacuse of the youngest kids
and theirs established knowlenge of the basic elemets of this sport.
